Let’s Get Honest for a Moment

Let’s Get Honest for a Moment

“Unused creativity is not benign. It metastasizes.
It turns into grief, rage, judgement, sorrow, shame.
We are creative beings. We are, BY NATURE, creative.”

When I first heard these words from the wonderful Brené Brown, a wave of recognition flooded my body.

Yes. I think I’ve always known this intuitively, but had never quite heard it articulated with this grace.

When a creative urge starts to tug at your soul, my firm belief is that it’s doing so for a reason. Your creative self is being summoned to step up to the plate and take a swing… and yet far too often, we don’t heed the call.

In fact, sometimes we purposely walk in the opposite direction.

Out of fear. Out of resistance. Out of procrastination. Or even just because we don’t quite know where to start on our big, bold dream, so it seems easier to just… not.

The problem, of course, is that when we ignore our creative siren song, it doesn’t simply go away.

Unfortunately, as Brene says, it metastasizes and starts leaching into other areas of our life…

{Pause For A Moment}

Think about where you might be currently feeling restless, tense, small, stuck, unexpressed.

Let’s get honest (it’s just you and me here) :

What are you NOT doing in your life that you WANT to be doing?

Okay. That first hit?
That’s your heart speaking.

Carry on…

The thing is, on the creative path, fear doesn’t just disappear… and truth be told, to be completely fearless would be to be without a compass, a signal, a reminder of what matters to us.

Choosing to push through and act despite the pulsing fear is a choice we have to keep on making – a continuous commitment to honour the creative spirit.

Even when it’s uncomfortable and foggy and you’re faced with uncertainty.

Even when you’d like to curl up in a metaphorical ball and stay smack-bang in the safety of your comfort zone.

Because that’s what we’re here for.

And: because the rewards are so (SO) worth it.

I’m not just talking the obvious ‘abundance’ here, but the more ineffable, intangible things that enrich your life in the most profound ways. Like creative fulfilment. Self-expression. The joy of speaking your truth, perhaps even for the first time ever.

There really is nothing like it, and it too will leach out into other areas of your life, but this time, in the most glorious of ways.

My beautiful mentor shared a paraphrased quote with me recently, which was:

If you have a dream, you have a DUTY and a RESPONSIBILITY to ensure that that dream becomes a reality – even when it’s scary. Otherwise, you’ll only ever be a DREAMER.

Can you feel the simple wisdom in that?

All truth, beautiful one.

So: here’s to making dreams a reality.

To honouring creative impulses.

To giving it a go… because, you have nothing to lose and everything to gain.

Over to you. What is one creative project or idea you are now ready to commit to and bring to life? Declare it and share with me in the comments below.

As always, thank you so much for being here, for showing up for YOU and taking action to create your dream life.

Go forth and conquer,

While we’re talking ‘making dreams happen’, this year has already seen some gorgeous souls say a big HELL YES to their own fear-busting, heart-following and health-declaring dreams. If you’ve been feeling the pull to work with me, now is your chance.
Get in right here.
